So 1st chemo completed today, and had cannula in my wrist, next week they want me to have a PICC line put in for all the future treatments. I'm a real chicken s*%t when it comes to needles etc and am panicking about this.( I know very minor in the scheme of things). So questions
1 does it hurt when it's put in?
2 Can you feel it pulling or hurting after?
3 Does it hurt everyday?
4 what PICC covers would you recommend to help it stay in place and clean.
Hi there, had mine in since 29/6/22.didn’t hurt and the experts were very reassuring I even dosed off .
slight pull but very minimal
doesn’t hurt
I was recommended a Picc cover from Amazon . Here’s the link
and I find it very helpful and I also double wrap with cling film before I put the cover on for double protection..
hope this is helpful and all the best you will be alright.
X
Hi , I am due to start my chemo in two weeks and had a picc line put in two days ago . I was dreading it , managed to get myself into a very anxious state before it was done . The nurses were brilliant , explained everything , and were very reassuring . There was no pain from the procedure and apart from some slight soreness from a little bit of bruising all is well . Too soon for me to say how it is long term but the experience of it being fitted was fine . I was so relieved it wasn’t the nightmare I had made it out to be in my head .
hope all goes well for you x
I had a PICC in for about 6 months, honestly didn’t hurt but so much easier for treatments and taking blood. I then got out onto a Hickmans, they make everything so much easier. Just be brave xxx
It’s similar to a PICC just bigger and gets put in your chest. I had to have mine as I needed a stem cell transplant
I have had a PICC line since my 2nd treatment. No problems to date. A district does the flush when I am not going to the hospital for treatments, However I now go weekly. My shower cover is made by Limbo. Recommended by my hospital. Better than clingfilm. You can get it on prescription. Make sure you get the right size. 8 weeks on still OK and easier for treatments and taking blood
