Hi, I started my chemo journey last Friday, am having 12 weeks of paclitaxel with carboplatin every 3rd week and then will have 4 rounds of EC. Even though last week went OK I am still stressing over every detail and worried about side effects.

Has anyone else been on this chemo path, how did you get on and any tips to help with mindset?

Thanks x

  • Hi sorry you find yourself here.  I haven’t found Chemo too bad.  I’ve had 3 x EC and experienced some sickness on day 2 and generally off colour for a few days.   I have had 2 x Paclitaxel and so far no problems at all.  Everyone seems to be different but I hope you find it not as bad as you may be expecting. How did you find your first Paclitaxel?

  • Hi, thanks for your reply, last week was not too bad, I took all the anti sickness so didn't feel sick which was great but was tired and not myself. Worst bit is the daily injection which makes me very anxious every time I have it.

Today's chemo is cancelled due to the storm (I am in Cornwall) so this has made me anxious again. And have woken up with some small bruising on picc line arm (not near site) but on elbow bend, again there is a theme here and now am anxious! But wondering if it is just how I slept.

Glad your sessions are going well, are you managing to switch off from it all on your good days? My mind won't let me so far and I have barely left the house.

  • I didn’t look forward to the injections but the thought of doing it is actually worse.  Sorry chemo cancelled I hope mine never is as got my lifts all arranged and would really throw me.  The storm sounds like it will be bad so a good day to be in and keep warm.   I shouldn’t think a bruise would be anything to worry about perhaps mention it when you have chemo?   I don’t struggle with thought of having chemo but this whole experience of diagnosis has been overwhelming x

  • Hi I started my chemo last September and am finished now. I got EC first ..3 sessions and the the weekly Pax with Carbo every third week for 9 weeks.
I also did the injections for low white blood cells. You do get used to them. I was very lucky during chemo …no bad side effects. I used Biotene toothpaste and mouth wash and I didn’t have any problem with mouth sores etc. I also drank lots of water the day after chemo to help flush out toxins.
i did actually miss dose 9 ..,very last dose due to neuropathy in my hands. Think after 4 months it just built up in my system. I have been off chemo almost 5 weeks and hands much better now. I’m getting a mastectomy on the 28th Feb. Good luck ..I’m here if you want to ask me anything along the way. Love Irene ps.

  • Hello i hope your feeling as ok as can be. I have finished my treatment now. I had paclitaxel and carboplatin every 3rd week aswell and i found this was very manageable for me, i did feel very tired and a bit more nausea when having carboplatin but nothing that kept me from doing my usual activities. Then i had 2 ec which for me was hard but everyone reacts differently. With ec i had alot more nausea and generally very lethargic. I tried the sickness bands you wear on your wrists as thought it worth a try and i feel this did help subside the horrible nausea for me a bit. I had to experment with different types of anti sickness medication as some just wernt helping me. I hope you find it not too bad. Good luck.

  • Are you finished your treatment now ?

  • Oops ignore that I see you have said you are finished treatment? What is happening next ? Are you getting surgery like me ? X
