Hi everyone.
I was just wondering if anybody could tell me how long I would expect normally to wait for an oncologist appointment following a lumpectomy for triple negative breast cancer? It's now been over 3 weeks and still heard nothing even though my cancer is grade 3 so quite aggressive. I have no node involvement at present and had clear margins but the breast surgeon said I'd need chemo because of the grade. My tumour almost doubled in size between mammogram and surgery, so I'm a bit concerned. Thanks
Hi Hugie, all the best for your first cycle today. I started EC yesterday (20th dec) following a similar TNBC diagnosis at end of September and lumpectomy SNB end October.
Felt like a long wait between surgery follow up, tumor was 25mm grade 3 but clear margins and nodes. In all it was 8 weeks following surgery to starting Chemo.
I would be interested to know if any one has any idea of timescales from last chemo cycle to starting Radiotherapy?
You will no doubt feel poorly today as i did yesterday, but i am starting to feel better and i hope you do too. Just one day at a time xx
I was diagnosed with TNBC at the beginning of April and had a lumpectomy at the end of that month. I started chemotherapy at the beginning of July and had my last one on 1st December. Went for my radiotherapy planning scan/appointment yesterday (20th December) and due to start radiotherapy on 5th January.

Can I ask, is chemo always required or recommended? Not seen anyone from oncology yet, my lumpectomy scheduled 12th January. So far I’ve only spoken to the surgeon who mentioned in passing radiotherapy and chemo but didn’t say what determining factors were.
Hi Ochno
I didn't see an oncologist until after I'd had my lumpectomy and had the results back from that and the SLNB.
As there were micro deposits in one lymph node the oncologist recommended that I had both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He did say that some doctors don't count micro deposits as meaning that it had spread to the lymph node.
He also used the NHS Predict tool which came up with a score which he said meant I'd benefit from chemotherapy.

Thank you. That makes sense now. I guess it’s a wait and see and hope for the best.
In my experience the surgeons leave consideration of chemo to the oncologists. My oncologist said that as TNBC is a high risk cancer, they always recommend chemo unless the tumour is very small (less than 0.5cm) with no lymph node involvement and no LVI at the tumour site.
Hola! Lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node removal done and now awaiting results. Original tumour 11mm but to achieve clear margins took 5cm x 2.5 x 3. Surgeon said scarring won’t be pretty as tumour close to skin surface. Await pathology report which will go before their Tumour Committee for decision on treatment going forward. They’ve left clips in place for radiotherapy. Everything healing nicely so will concentrate on that and achieving better level' of fitness, physically and mentally before the next stage commences. Next step is staple removal from underarm next Tuesday. Going to pop in to see nurse at local health centre today to let them check everything looking okay.
