radiotherapy and not chemo

I  have opted for radiotherapy. I saw my husband suffer chemo and then die as docetaxel caused pulmonary fibrosis and a horrible 3 weeks in intensive care. Any tips re radiotherapy and did it make your breast smaller? I was so pleased the lumpectomy left it looking much like the other one. Any ways to avoid lymphodoema? or is it just luck?

  • Hi

I'm sorry I can't help with your questions but I noticed that your post hadn't had any response yet. It might be an idea to also post this in the main Breast cancer forum, as it's generally busier than this one and they also have a dedicated radiotherapy thread.

    Hi Vibraphone

are you Triple negative?  I was diagnosed 10 months ago and had lumpectomy, node clearance, chemo and I'm just doing radio. I don't think it shrinks breast.  If you are triple negative my understanding is that chemo is a great defence and I understand your concerns re docetaxol but if you discuss with your oncologist maybe they could look at other options. I didn't have docetaxol in the end but I had had 6 EC instead. I know of other ladies who get a form of taxol weekly.  This must be so hard for you having lost your husband.

I found macmillan nurse line great for advice and a listening ear.  also my allocated breast nurse.

    sending you best wishes x

Thankyou  I have tnbc. I have read that radio can shrink the breast. All the best to you too. I am opting for radio- going for the scan tomorrow.
