Hello everyone,
I had my surgery ( lumpectomy an sentinel nod) and was expecting having a drain and all the worries of caring for it.
After the op I was convinced until this morning when the nurse said I don't have one.
Did you have a drain or not?
Could you please share your experience?
Thank you.
Sandra
Hi Sonjha welcome to the forum and glad that at least the surgery is past for you. I didnt have a drain at all when I had my surgery and it was a lumpectomy and Sentinel node biopsy as well.
I think they do put them in after a mastectomy as fluid can collect and build up but usually not necessary in a lumpectomy.
Best Wishes xxx
Hi I had my Surgry in dec and was told I would have a drain and told how to care for it and brought might clothes to cater for it. I awoke in recovery of a day stay and noticed I didn’t have one. The nurses I asked just said you obviously didn’t need one but you need to speak to your breast cancer nurses. I was sent home without any contact from the consultant or breast care nurses. I arrived gone after 6 so too late to phone the unit but they were planned to phone me the next morning to ask the drainage level. I didn’t hear from them so I rang at 11am and they said they didn’t have my notes but it was a gd sign I didn’t have one. I never got any clear answers until I saw the consultant after 2wks that said the node they took was clear so no need for drain.
hope this helps
good luck Kim
Hi Kim!
Thank you for your answer. In fact before surgery I had the same talk about the drain and finally I did not have one. Like you the lymph nod was clear. That makes sense.
How is the treatment going? I hope you are ok.
Take care and safe!
Xx

Just completed 3/4 ec 3weekly, had a blip #2 but they reduced dose for #3 so much better then I go on 4x PAC 2wkly. It’s not too bad the general weakness is usually week 1, feel better week 2, then a normal few days before it starts again, queasiness goes with meds, metal taste only rarely, emotional but not sure if that’s chemo or the virus as shielding so not seeing family and having to do chemo sessions without husband is tough but as they say we are stronger than we think when we have no choice.
Good luck with future treatment, be kind to yourself

Hi Kim,
I am not familiar with the abbreviation you have used very new for me. I understand you have had 3 courses of chemo is that right?
Emotionally I believe we have all our downs.
And not be able to be with the loved ones must be very difficult.
Good luck and stay strong Kim.
At the moment just asking myself will I be strong enough to deal with all that treatment, side effects, brave face for my daughters etc...
Thank you for your message
Sandra
Sorry the EC and PAC are the names of the type of chemo medication. The first one is 3 weekly Then I go onto 2 weekly for the second one.
my daughter and granddaughter came to leave with us last June under upsetting circumstances, we were just settling into a routine when this all kicked off in the October! I was dreading them seeing me so Ill but it has been ok and they have been very supportive along with my husband.
On the few rough days I stay in bed ( prob only 4 in total from March 16) and the first week after chemo I have a few naps on the sofa or bed where my grandaughter thinks we snuggle up for a Disney film. (So she hadn’t seen any thing nastier than maybe a few tears of frustration and self pity a few times that I couldn’t control)
hope this helps xxx
