Hi, I'm Sue and have been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. I am having my first session of Chemo on Friday and I am terrified. Are there any success stories out there as the internet is full of scare stories.

    Hiya

Welcome to the community none of us want to be a member of but its an amazing place and will help you every step of the way.

Do not look at Dr Google, its out of date or the information is incorrect. (I did the same, silly me)

Success stories, i am proud to say i am one, i was diagnosed with TNBC July 2018 and i am now cancer free. There are a few of us on here, but what you also need to think about is that a lot of people once they get the all clear don't necessarily come back here so we don't always hear the success stories.

I had chemotherapy, its not easy but it is doable and the waiting for it to start is the worse part. We do have a monthly group August breast cancer chemotherapy chat go have a look, you will find people going through the same as you and i found this great support when i was having mine. It seems to help knowing you're not the only one going through it, plus you will get lots of advice and hints from people.

Keep coming and talking to us. we'll try to help with your worries, i can understand you being terrified i think we have all felt it but you really don't need to be. The day i had my first treatment i was scared but as i walked out of the hospital i can remember thinking, was that it?!?!?

Listen to your nurses, take all the medication you're given, you will be given anti sickness tablets, take them even if you don't feel sick. You will be given a 24 hour phone number to ring in case you have any worries or concerns, you can ring it anytime.

Come here to rant, cry and shout and on occasions we even have a laugh xxx

    Hi Sue!

I'm in my 18th week of chemo, only 2 more to go ( had 4 fortnightly xAC, then weekly Paclitaxel x 12).Can't say if it's a success story yet, I guess when I have surgery and get the pathology I'll know more. My lump has definitely shrunk though. But what I did want to say is chemo has not been that bad for me, although of course every body reacts differently. Before the start it's terrifying, probably fear of the unknown as well as fear of everything we've heard, seen in movies etc, but when you're actually doing it, it's do-able. There are good anti-nausea drugs. I was so scared of losing my hair, but now I'm so used to it, it seems normal. I followed advice I read and shaved it off when it started to fall out in clumps. That way I felt like I had some control. I have a great wig and a fringe I wear under a cap. I've tried hard to remind myself that chemo's a friend, not an enemy, it's a treatment to kill the cancer cells and help us get healthy again. I drank/drink lots and lots of water, don't know if that has helped. I agree with others on this forum who say not to look up too much on the internet. I got really scared reading about some side effects from Paclitaxel, but they don't happen to everyone and they haven't happened much to me, so I got scared about that for nothing.

Once you've started, it won't be that bad. Best of luck on Friday,

    Tessa 11

  • Hi Sue

I was diagnosed in 2013 and are now coming up to 6 years. It’s a tough old road mentally and physically but you can definitely do this ! This forum is a wealth of information from the people who know best as they have been in a similar place to you. Be kind to yourself, take time out when you need it and welcome any help that’s offered. Best wishes.

  • Hi

I was diagnosed last April with TN.  I had 4 x Docetaxel, 4 x FEC.  I then had lumpectomy even though chemo destroyed my tumour completely.  I then had 15 x rads.

I got the all clear a week before Christmas.  I used to be on this site all the time, getting good advice  and passing on tips if I could and pop in now and again.

Life is hectic for me again - a year makes such a difference.  Good luck with your treatment Blush

Hi script fan hope you don’t mind me jumping in. I’m having surgery tomorrow 3rd and I’m so scared. I’m having lumpectomy with guide wire and a lymph node biopsy but I’m needle phobic and sick phobic too. Do you have any tips? It’s says on my letter a light breakfast before 7, do I have a light breakfast?! I know it’ll be too late once you get chance to reply but just writing this is helping. I’m dreading the whole thing. Weary xxx

    Hi Live love laugh,

You may not look at this as it's the middle of the night for you, but I'm in Australia so lunchtime here. I haven't had surgery yet, so can't say much, except they do it all the time, and they will look after you. I'll be thinking of you X X Tessa

    Hello

I am so so sorry i didn't see this, i had my first day at work yesterday and came home with a migraine so ended up in bed till this morning.

So i'm guessing you'll have had this done now and i'm sure it won't have been as bad as you thought?? Or i hope it was. I know i was surprised at how painless it was.

Make sure you take it easy the next few days, put yourself first.

Please let me know how you got on xxx
