Hiya Geordiepaws sorry you find yourself here but it is the best place to be. The people here have helped me through the good days and the bad days. There is always someone around to offer support and advice.
This group tends to be a bit quieter than the Breast Cancer Group so you may want to post in there too.
I was diagnosed with TNBC last July and am currently awaiting results from my second lumpectomy.
I had chemo first but i do know everyones treatment is different. You want to know anything give me a shout and ill try my best to help.
Hi there.
sorry to hear about your diagnosis and I hope the surgery goes well. I was diagnosed with tnbc early December 2018. Had a lumpectomy and node clearance mid dec and started chemo first week of jan. My surgery went well, clear margins and 2 nodes affected (we knew one was On diagnosis). PET scan and CT were clear. I’ve finished the first chemo regime (EC fortnightly for 4 cycles ). It wasn’t as bad as I’d feared but not a walk in the park either. Go easy on yourself and let people help you.
Im 38 and have two boys, 4 and 8.
My next regime is paclitaxel weekly for 12 weeks with carboplatin added every three weeks. I tested positive for a mutation to my BRCA2 gene which is why I am having the carbo as well. Due to the faulty gene I will now have a double mastectomy after chemo, radiotherapy after that and if I want one a reconstruction next year.
Its a slog and I know tnbc is scary due to lack of targeted treatments. But it generally responds really well to chemo and sounds like yours was picked up early?
I hope you recover well and cab get on with chemo quickly and that your side effects are not too bad. Good luck x
Hi The script.
Thank you.i had surgery on the 26th..things have come on a lot in 17years.they managed to get the tumor and some lymph nodes out in one incision...with no drains.stitches.dressing...so that was good.i go back on the 12yh April for results of lymph nodes....see what treatment after that....hopefully the treatment is better than 17years ago....great to hear from anyone on this as we are a rare breed.....goodluck to all...xx
Hi Geordiepaws
I have recently been diagnosed with TNBC in the L breast, after having ER+ tumour two years ago in the R breast.
I'm utterly terrified and starting chemo in a week, then having double mastectomy.
It's such a blow to be going through this again, and it almost seems unreal at times.
Thinking of you x
Hi Geordiepaws
Sorry you are starting this journey but you will find lots of support on this site.
I was diagnosed in April last year with TNBC , no node involvement. I had 4 x Docetaxel and 4 x FEC. Had lumpectomy end of Nov (op slightly delayed as I got a PE in my lung) and 8 nodes removed for testing. Got results back a week before Christmas. All clear and never any signs of cancer in nodes.
Started radiotherapy, finished 5th March after 15 sessions.
You can do this, take each treatment as it comes not looking too far ahead. DO NOT Google, it's so out of date!! Good luck on your journey x
Hi bluebell22.
Thank you for your feedback.thats good to know ..can I ask have you had breast cancer before? I am trying to stay positive ..I was about to retire this year..looking forward to all the things we want to do...seems like I'm in limbo.. again.....glad I found this site...there use to be a magazine called Ameona that I was a regular fan of 17years ago...
Hi Geordiepaws
No I hadn't had breast cancer before. This site has helped me alot.
Sods law when you're looking forward to retiring. It's good that you're positive. I was positive, it goes a long way I think in your recovery. I bet you'll see a huge difference in your treatments and the side effects (on a positive note)
Please let us know how you get on and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. X
Hello geordiepaws
I had breast cancer thirty two years ago at the age of 28 , and again over four years ago , I’m not sure if the first cancer was TNB donot know if it was tested for that back then , the second cancer was TNB , I suspect they both were as I carry the brca 2 mutated gene .
i truly hope all goes well for you as I’m sure it will
good luck and hope your treatments are kind to you
best wishes Tillytots xx
Hi Haysie.
Thanx for your reply..the surgery went well..and went back for the results fri...lymph nodes clear...aww what a relief...I have have my bloods taken for Genetic testing and just waiting for their results ...its not worth starting treatment if my bloods come back positive. ..I see the Oncologist in a week or 2 to talk about treatment. The surgeon doesn't think I will need chemo as in his eyes i'am clear from tumour and lymph nodes.i will have radiotherapy..I hope your feeling ok starting your chemo...I know its changed alot since I had it 17years ago...I just it's not as harsh as it use to be...big hugs pet...xx
