Capecitabine - what to expect

I’m starting Capecitabine in 10 days, 2 weeks on and 1 weeks off for 8 rounds. Ive already had 4 x EC 4 x Taxol, double mastectomy with reconstruction and radiation.

I am  told The oral chemo is much easier but just wondering about people’s experiences?. I’m not expecting it to be like the infusions which came like a wave but do you feel better on the week you’re not taking it?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Tiger9

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you had breast cancer.  I was put on Capeditabine after my surgery because there was some cancer left in one of my lymph nodes.  Like you I took it for two weeks on and one week off for eight rounds.  I didn't have any problems while taking it.  I used cream on my feet and hands every day to prevent soreness.  I also made up a solution of warm water and salt and rinsed my mouth out after every meal which prevented me from getting mouth sores.  Just one thing to bear in mind though you probably know this already is that everyone reacts differently to oral chemo, so you experience of it might not be the same but hopefully it will be.

    Hope this helps.

Best of luck with your oral chemo.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Tiger9.

I'm sorry  to hear your news but I was on Capecitabine for 15 months and I found that I tolerated it very well. I was able to get on with my life with not too many side affects. Hope this helps and I hope you tolerate the treatment as well as I did.

  • Thanks Daisy53 sounds like you did really well - congratulations and hope you’re on the right path now Thumbsup tone1 x

  • Thanks Whippet really positive to hear each about your experience. Each stage feels like a stop gap but if can keep llife As normal as possible that would be a help all round.
best wishes with your recovery x
