Worried about bone mets! Need reassurance

Hi all,

I have grade 2, stage 3 triple negative breast cancer and have undergone 6 months chemo (PC and EC) alongside immunotherapy and had mastectomy 4 weeks ago. The histology showed only 4mm tumour remaining (was 78mm pre treatment!) and only a few isolated cancer cells in 2 of the lymph nodes removed.

I am waiting for the next step of radiotherapy.

For the past 2 weeks I have had an ache in my left hip, most noticeable when walking/moving especially when I move the leg back. My lower back is also a little uncomfortable and I have pain in my left elbow (but I think I may have overdone it with my arm exercises!).

I am really worried about bone metastasis and I am struggling with switching off. I have spoken to my consultant who thinks mets are unlikely. I mentioned a scan but he said if I do this it could delay my next steps/radiotherapy. But I can’t get it out of my mind!

Anyone had anything similar? I am so scared it has spread and I am now terminal.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Kiwi79

I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum.  I'm sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer.  Your consultant is like to be right as he's the expert but that doesn't always help when you have aches and pains and are worried about recurrence and bone metastasis. Have you explained to your consultant that you are very worried?  If not then either contact him again or your breast care nurse and explain how worried you are and that you would find it helpful to have a scan even if it meant delaying your radiotherapy if that's what you want.

Wishing you the best of luck with your radiotherapy.

    Best wishes

  • Thanks Daisy,

I have seen my oncologist today and he has advised do radiotherapy and then he will book a scan at the end of that in September.

I will also discuss with my new consultant I meet next week about radiotherapy.

    Hope they are right!

    Thanks again!
