Who has had success after 9 weeks of PC and 3 cycles of EC?

I was wondering if anyone has had success with this in terms of shrinking their tumor?  Mine is Grade 3, Stage 2 and was last measured at 43mm x 38mm.  I start my 9 weeks of PC on Tuesday.  I'm wondering how long they will persevere before just doing a mastectomy.  What bothers me is the prospect of months of chemo with no improvement or it growing even bigger and leaving the door open for it to spread.  I think I'm confused about the notion of trying to shrink it when it could just be removed along with the lymph node(s) before it spreads elsewhere.

  • Morning, any tips on first chemo session, I start next Weds...also when we are going through chemo, do we live as hermits because of immune system or just carry on as normal when we can?

  • Hi I drank loads of water after my chemo for a few days. I also started using a soft toothbrush and Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash and I didn’t have any mouth sores all the way through my chemo. Also put lots of moisturiser on you hands and feet and a good nail oil…as these areas get dry as chemo progresses. I must admit I didn’t mix much but covid was rife last November/December and I didn’t want my treatment stopped so I didn’t mix much, still managed walks but that was all I really did.
plus the weather was awful.  Are you starting in the three weekly or weekly sessions?

  • Hi, weekly, 12 weeks of PC then 8 weeks of ec......... X thanks for the tips x

  • Your welcome  Good luck and ask any questions here  and we can see if we can help xxx

  • Also keep a daily diary of your temperature and any symptoms then you can discuss at your weekly oncologist call. As sometimes you forget when your on the call. I did that all the way through my treatment. X

  • Hi Bexter I have found Paclitaxel very easy and hope you do too. One tip I can offer is wear gloves when you go in the freezer so your fingers don’t get cold! With EC was advised to suck on ice when the red liquid goes in. It’s supposed to help avoid mouth sores.
Abigail hope you’re still recovering well after mastectomy xx

  • Thank you yes I’m doing okay thanks..no pain which is great. I see the surgeon next Wednesday for the results x

  • I’ve had lumpectomy, currently having chemo but now plan has changed to double mastectomy due to gene mutation.  Good to know you haven’t had any pain.  Can I ask if you had reconstruction? Understand if you’d rather not say x

  • Hi Wobbly1 no I decided against reconstruction. I’m 64 and decided I can live without my left breast. Gosh that’s I’m amazed at how well I feel  and don’t really miss my breast. They didn’t test me for gene mutation due to my age. xxx

  • I’m thinking the same as you but maybe have option for reconstruction at a later date if that’s possible just in case. I’m 61 so not far behind you.  Glad it’s going so well and you’re happy with your decision xx
