Hi all

So i have had mutli nodular goiter for 5+ years (was picked up on CT scan when investigated for coughing up blood) and had ultrasound ('US') and told it was benign.

This has grown to 5cm in last 18 months and started choking on food and struggling with voice strain and hoarse voice.

Referred by GP Aug'25 on 2 week pathway. Seen on 20th Aug, told was probably benign but would do US to be sure and was discharged from OPD and would write with US results.

US 1st Sept, found suspicious nodules and significant more nodules than previous US 4 years earlier. Also found enlarged lymph nodes in neck. FNA biospy done on both.

Didn't get any results (phoned secretary every week who couldn't tell me results). Eventually had an appointment for repeat biospies in December appointment as previous appointment cancelled twice by hospital.

Didn't get results again. My GP chased the results and resulted in my case going to MDT end of Jan'26 from which given appointment for today.

Went today and consultation insisted I had been written to with results and did not believe me when said I had waited 6 months from 1st biospy to today to get results (he checked with his secretary in the appointment and admitted no letters sent).

Anyway, 1st biospy was THY 1, 2nd was THY 3. Consultant recommends surgery but says not gone to MDT yet and needed to wait for this.

3 hours later get a call from consultants secretary saying he has asked her to contact me and arrange an urgent appointment for his weekly clinic next weds to discuss surgery and that I needed to take the appointment offered as she was having to give me someone else's appointment who is less urgent.

Dont know what to make of this?

Thanks for reading long story

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and history into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • If you are at risk of choking because some kind of growth is pressing on your windpipe, that's a situation that generates an urgent appointment.

It doesn't mean you have cancer - you might, you might not - but you can't continue to take the risk of not being able to breathe.

    Best wishes
