Hi all

i I am a mother of two aged 41

In September 2023 I had a mini stroke while visiting my mum ,which then lead to the ct scan showing that I had a lump in my throat , the hospital kept me in for a couple of days  and said I could go home but when I got back I had a letter of them asking me if I could go for a ultrasound scan the following week due to the ct scan showing the lump , so I want back to the hospital had the scan thought nothing worrying about the lump at this time.

Then a week passes by and I was contacted by a consultant asking if I could go for a fine needle scan as they wanted to double check something so I went for that and the consultant rang me in two days and said there is now to lumps but because you don’t live in the area and been travelling down to appointments where going to contact your nearest hospital, by the middle of October I’d all ready had the 3 scans and was starting to worry so my hospital where I live there e.n.t consultant contacts me by phone and says I need to see you before the end of next week so we booked the appointment on the phone for 28th October 2023.

I went to the appointment and he went threw everything Keith me about what scans I had and he wanted to do one more fine needle scan that day with blood test to make sure and be in contact with me in 7 days with he’s results, a week went by and I got a letter saying he had made me an other appointment as he needed to speak to me in person about the last test , it was 10 days later I went to the appointment thinking everything is fine it’s just cysts as soon as I walked in to the consultants room and sat down he came straight out with there is 3 lumps which we think you could have cancer and I want to remove your thyroids completely and the two other lumps He then went one to say it normally takes up to six weeks for an operation date to be give but in this case it could be from now which was late November or the first two weeks in December 2023. Which I had the operation by the 9 th December 2023 .

I had just celebrated Christmas and new year then on the 4 th January 2024 this year I got another call from E.n.t thinking it be my follow up appointment because they did a total thyroid removal, I said hello and he replied hello called me by name and said i have some bad news but we did a biopsy on the 3 lumps and all 3 had come back with 45% cancer cells in them and that they was going to refer me for further treatment which I’m still waiting on.

  • Hi Nikki E and welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry to hear you've had to go through all this and I'm sure you didn't want to find yourself here. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, there's quite a few of us on here at different stages and with different thyroid cancers, so I'm sure we'll be able to help. Hopefully you'll hear back soon as to your treatment path, it's the waiting that is so awful. Let us know how you get on x

  • Hi k9crazy

i went to my specialist cancer nurse today and she said that I’m still on the waiting list and could be waiting another 3 months for treatment from the hospital they have asked for but because I’m not eating more than 5 mouth fulls of food and very tender in my throat and neck for touch the hospital where I live have a consultant that is willing to see me tomorrow and do an other scan and more test to see if it’s got any worse

  • Nikki E, that's good if you can get to see the consultant who is local to you today, fingers crossed. Let us know how you get on x
