Hi All
I am a month after my first surgery and awaiting the next. I was wondering when the numbness goes, under my chin still feels really weird and such strange sensations going up to my ears, does anyone else have this? I also still feel like I have something tight wrapped around my neck and a burning sensation, cold things make it feel so much better and I have a bit of a sausage overhanging the scar that I am hopeful will go, but as I am due more surgery next month I guess I should not worry about that.
I just needed an offload and was wondering if anyone else had these sensations post surgery?
Hi Cassey, I am 5 wks post TT, bilateral neck and chest dissections and am getting very scared and down by this constant strangling feeling that you mentioned you had too. The tightness I get isn't really on my scar line, it's much higher on my throat/neck. I am doing neck exercises from the sheet (no physio appt thru yet) and massage but my main question is does it go away completely, reduce or did you just learn to live with it?
Thanks.
Medullary Thyroid cancer dx May 2023
Hi daisy,
I've experienced both of these symptoms after both of my surgeries, (i had my thyroid removed in two halves).
The numbness, the tightness does go in time, it just takes a while for the area to heal.
I have found bio-oil to helps the scar, it was recommended to my by a nurse. I hate the itchy/stinging stage of the healing process.
I mentioned to my consultant about my ears hurting, I got pains and tingles on my neck behind my ears after my surgery but he didn't really say anything about it.
Hey
I had 90 lymph nodes removed and my whole thyroid, My scar goes ear to ear, and my whole neck is numb, including my left ear, tops of my shoulders and chest. I’m two months since my surgery, and consultant said the neck numbness in permanent but the rest may come back. I hope yours gets easier for you, how big is your scar? Mine is also very raised, it can take years to fully heal and settle. but maybe contact your consultant about the sensations to discuss as it’s different for everyone x
