  1. I've thyroid cancer the follicular one had 2 operations on my neck now awaiting radiotherapy a idione tablet in April. I'm still working probably till I go In for treatment.  I have struggled I'm getting counselling from bupa which has helped me it's so overwhelming and very scary but I'm a plodder I keep going .I was wondering how other people are doing .
  • Don't knock plodding. It's how most of us get through all of this cancer stuff.
Fantastic that BUPA are helping you with counselling - lots of people need that but relatively few get it.

    Best wishes

  • Good to hear you have had counselling and it has helped @Jotbot.  Sorry to hear you have needed 2 operations and best wishes for your RAI treatment.  I had mine just before Xmas and it was fine.

  • Hi.

I was diagnosed a year ago and since then had surgery, RAI and just 3 weeks ago second surgery.

The reality only catched with me few months after diagnosis. I started to have panic attacks and anxiety (NEVER before) so I went for private counselling and it did not help me at all :) So in the end had to go on sertraline and it helped me immersely. I know some people are not keen on antidepressants but I was really low and panicky so decided to try and I am happy I did.

If you feel you should stay off work for some time I would advice to listen to yourself. After first surgery I was off for 7 weeks and now I know I went back too early. Then 2 weeks at work and then RAI and 4 weeks off and only then I felt ready mentally and physically.

    Take care x

  • Hi Jotbot

Macmillan offer free counselling - I had six weeks and found it helpful. Hope your treatment goes well
