Hi all,

Ive recently been diagnosed with papillary Thyroid cancer after having my right thyroid gland removed just over 3 weeks ago and I am now due to go back into surgery in just over 2 weeks to have the rest of my thyroid gland removed. After this will be the radioactive iodine treatment and scans to ensure the cancer hadn’t spread.

Was just wondering if anyone has claimed on their critics illness insurance cover and received a payout from it? I’m unsure whether it would be worth going through the process however this would ease the pain of covering for work etc

Looking forward to hearing peoples thoughts and hope everyone is doing well in their treatment and recovery’s.

  • Over the years a lot of posts have been made on this topic. I have no personal experience so can't help directly, but if you go to the search bar, type in 'critical illness' and search inside the group, you should get YEARS worth of lived experience to inspire you.

    Good luck.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Em

i had critical insurance cover and it paid out this year. It took about 3 months to process but it was hassle free. I hadn’t even thought about it or remembered I had it until another thyroid patient mentioned it to me. I’m so glad they did. This is what you pay for every month and whilst I would rather not have been in the situation where I could claim- I’m glad I was made  aware or it. Good luck x

  • Do you mind me asking please, had your tumour invaded nearby tissue? My husband has a claim pending and whilst it’s been classified as ‘minimally invasive’ it hasn’t yet invaded adjacent tissues and wondering if the insurer are going to be difficult. Thank you - hope you have recovered well.
