Hi new here. Already part of the melanoma forum after diagnosis and treatment in 2019. Now anxiously awaiting ultrasound of a thyroid nodule (I have other family members who have had papillary thyroid cancer) worryingly I have noticed a soft swelling the size of a gerbil in my left armpit ( can't miss it)

  • Hello, BarbaraL is on holiday in Morocco and for some strange reason can’t get the Mac site to let her log on so she asked me to post this for you:
The gerbil in your armpit sounds fascinating and quite worrying but I rather doubt it’s related to your thyroid.
Ultrasound is only the first step in a multi-step process to identifying what’s going on in your thyroid. When you’ve already had another type of cancer, it’s natural to expect the worst but something like 90% of thyroid lumps turn out to be benign. Thyroids are just prone to being a bit lumpy.
I’ve you’ve been through melanoma, the good(?) news is that thyroid cancer (even if you have got it) will probably seem like relatively easy ride compared to what you’ve already been through. That’s not to suggest any cancer is ‘easy’ but this type typically has a great prognosis.

I have no medical training, everything I post is an opinion or educated guess. It is not medical advice.

  • Hi thanks for replying to my post, I think it is the waiting that causes all my anxiety, I am sure it will be nothing but a fatty deposit but until they check who knows?
