Hello everybody, I’m new here. I am having trouble writing down what I actually want to achieve from this post as the journey is a bit long winded.
April 25 i had a hysterectomy due to what I thought were intense perimenopausal symptoms. On my 8 week checkup i was told I had had cervical cancer with no positive margins. A pet scan revealed no traces of lymph node activity or metastases in the pelvis however there was uptake in my right thyroid .
August and September saw me have a 6 week chemo radiotherapy treatment for the cervical cancer.
December 25 and I was finally called for an ultrasound and FNA of the right thyroid nodule which came back as indeterminate, second FNA was the same F3 so the consultant said let’s remove it with a hemithyroidectomy (Jan 26) stating that 80% of nodules are benign. You guessed it mine was the 20% that are cancerous.
Good news it was contained and hadn’t spread so no further treatment required.
Roll on 7 weeks everything healing well but I have a hospital appt for a PET scan to follow up on my cervical cancer, oncologist calls me two days after scan and says there has been a significant uptake in the remaining thyroid and I need another ultrasound to rule out cancer in the remaining tissue. She said the radio active material might have been because of inflammation!
My question is has anybody found themselves in this position where it could just be inflammation causing the images on the scan. I want to stay really positive and think that this is all it is but after two incidental finds of primary cancers in under 6 months I am finding the optimism is waning. On the initial ultrasound they only scanned the right side of my neck and now I’m worrying that they missed something.
Any information is much appreciated.
