Hi I had thyroidectomy July last year. my blood test were stable at end of November. I just wondered how often your supposed to have thyroid function test. I've been discharged from the hospital. I thought hospital would send a plan to gp but have just said to stay on 75mcg thyroxine. Gp has not even contacted me. I had to ask for calcium blood test which came back as boarderline low but said no further action. Did not even call me to discuss it. I don't have a review until, September.
Some people take a relatively short time to achieve a stable result whereas find their tsh and t4 levels fluctuate. My thyroid consultant recommended having a blood test 8 weeks after a change in levothyroxine dose. If you are stable your CNS might recommend less frequent blood tests. If you are noticing a change in how you feel you can always ask for a test. I recommend finding out the range you are expected to be in and don’t get fobbed off by a gp saying your results are satisfactory. Get to know your numbers.
