Has anyone had the shingles vaccine? I have been reading up and there are suggestions that shingles risk is higher for people with thyroid cancer?  I also read there  are 2 different vaccines so I’m keen to make the right choice.  I’m just not sure about it really

if anyone  has been down thus  road I would be very interested to hear about it so thanks all in advance

  • Hi,

I had my 1st shingles vaccine last Dec just before starting chemo for breast cancer and delayed the second until a few weeks after completing chemo. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in January and have just had my right side removed. There is a live vaccine and a non-live - I had the latter. I think they only use the non live one, but best to check. I had no problems from it.

  • I’m very sorry indeed  to hear about everything that you are going through.  Is there any kind of connection  between the cancers that you have been treated for are you aware?.  That must have been so difficult to hear.  i hope that you are recovering well from your recent surgery and things are looking more positive.  Thank goodness the cancer has been found and removed.  I sincerely hope things continue to improve for you and that the road ahead looks much brighter.

I’ve just had  Covid unfortunately  so my shingles vaccine hasn’t happened yet.  I think I will get it and it’s good to hear you tolerated it well.  I’m just going to wait until I’m a bit atrial get first.

thanks so much for replying xx

  • I hope you recover from covid quickly.

I've read that one increases the risk of the other, but I'm not sure how increased that risk is.

    I wish you well
