  • Wales. Yes my endo has said to try it for 8 weeks..i was on 175

  • Thanks for the info.

Mixing T3 and T4 was quite popular when I was first diagnosed, then (for the UK) went completely out of fashion when the T3 supplier increased the price to an unsustainable level and all the GPs were told not to use it any more.

Do you know why the docs took this approach? Is the doc trying to get your TSH down without sending your FT4 skyhigh?

And most importantly, how many tablets do you take of the T3?

If it's just one tablet of 25 micrograms, you probably get a bit energy boost soon after you take it and then dip significantly after about 8 hours. I have only used it once when I was preparing for a gamma ray scan and there was a worldwide shortage of Thyrogen injections so I had to go hypo. I was taking three tablets a day and every time I was due another, I knew because my energy dipped, my concentration wandered and I was all over the place.

So, IF you only get one tab, check with the doctor when you should take it or better still, can you have smaller dose tablets to spread it through the day I have a friend in the USA and she takes hers early afternoon to boost her through the rest of the day. I used to take mine (when I was only on T3 for that short period) at 6 am, 1 pm and about 8 pm. I didn't want it too close to bedtime.

T3 is very fast acting - it gives you a boost and then it fades away quickly. T4 is very slow acting and stays in your system for weeks.
