Hi everyone! I'm just reaching out after doing for biopsies on my thyroid nodules. It's left me really scared again ... I was managing my anxiety well.
So I have 5 nodules (last time I was told 6). I had biopsies on 3 today, which are apparently the most active. Does anyone know what this means?
He said I might need biopsies on the others as well in the future.
I was told I should have my results in 10 days.
Because I have more, Is that a bad thing? Does it mean it is spreading as I have more and it is active?
I didn't think to ask all this when I was there.
Thank you!

Hello,
I'm guessing you're talking about fine needle aspiration tests. Is that correct?
Have you previously had ultrasounds? If so the 'active' comment might mean that those nodules have grown since last time. Otherwise, I have no idea why they'd call them active. Maybe they mean 'interesting'. Honestly, when it comes to cancer, you don't want your lumps and bumps to be 'interesting'.
The thing to remember is that some of us get one big monster nodule, others get a few and some folk get them scattered about across the thyroid. Number and size are not necessarily any strong indication of whether they might be cancer. If diagnosis was as easy as counting and measuring them, life would be much simpler.
To put it simply, some people just have a lumpy nodule-y thyroid. Some people don't. That's about it.
Best wishes
Barbara
