Hi,

I was diagnosed October 2021 and had removal of thyroid and lump November 2021. Radioactive treatment December, plus they removed a parathyroid gland in surgery by mistake. Therefore am on calcium, vit D and levothryoxxine. Are surpressing thryoid less to less that 0.1 until scan in Sept as cancer spread to lymph nodes, am on 150mg levothyroxine, but find that whatever I do I'm gaining weight - I've always been active - as a Pe teacher and had an appetite, but usually due to the amount of sport I've done. I'm eating way less now and still going to ggym etc most days, but am heavier than i've ever been? Anyone else had simiiar? This time of year I am literally soaked from sweating after the smallest exercise and then in winter was so cold I couldn't move, even with heating and layers of clothes. Anyone help please as it's getting me down, along with constant thick black hairs on chin, which tweeze every day and the skin has gone thicker and drier on my legs causing ingrowing hairs. Please help, I'm 41 and single and trying to get back on the dating scene, but feel horrible.

    Hello,

I was also started on 150 micrograms after my surgery, but now down to 100 and 50 on alternate days (waiting on blood results from that change at the minute actually). I've also noticed that I've been putting on weight, even though I'm more active now than I ever would have been. I have put on muscle which accounts for some of the weight but my god I cannot get rid of fat around my tummy. I've also been sweating loads too, although I always did have trouble controlling my temperature, like you, I'd be freezing cold in winter. I'm sorry that I don't have anything that could help you, other than assuring you that you're not alone with these issues! Maybe in the future you'll be changed onto a different dosage and that might help things. Also, the last year from lockdown has been difficult, lots of people have gained weight or not feeling as good as they use to, and in addition we've had to deal with surgeries and cancer diagnosis, so don't be too hard on yourself (easier said than done, I have my days where I feel horrible, I'm trying to take my own advice!)
