Hi everyone
finally so my consultant today , my appt ended up being pushed out because I hadn’t had the ultrasound in time for the previous appt they sent me.
ulttrasound looked good but my thyroglobulin was 10.3 which he said was borderline.
They always said it was perfect before this so I think it rose towards the end of my pregnancy ( baby is 4 months )
do you think this is likely a sign of recurrence being on the way in the near future or should it be ok?
planning to try for another baby next year so would start sooner of its likely to come back as I’m 36 now
thanks
linda
Measurable levels of thyroglobulin indicate that there is still thyroid tissue in your body. It cannot tell you if that's 'normal' healthy thyroid tissue (a bit that the surgeon didn't remove) or if it's thyroid cancer tissue. Normally, the Tg test tracks how this level develops over an extended period and one single higher result doesn't mean anything in isolation.
What you might find, especially if your TSH was less suppressed during pregnancy (which is not unusual), is that your Tg level has been 'stimulated' (boosted, so to speak) by your TSH control being relaxed. I would expect that once your TSH is back at a suppression level, the doc will want the thyroglobulin blood test repeated to see if it's still at 10 or more.
Best wishes

If your doctor doesn't like lots of questions, that's not a reason to not ask them. He's there to help you, not to crawl into his little cave and ignore you. You are entitled to be fully informed and to get answers. Take somebody with you to make you feel a bit braver if you think it might help. But don't let the doctor dictate the (lack of) conversation.
Best wishes

Hi Everyone
so I got my appt by phone today with the nuclear medicine consultant who is lovely and much easier to talk to.
So it was thyroglobulin antibodies that were 10.3 and not the thyroglobulin which was .4
he said that the antibodies can mask the results for thyroglobulin and that he would wait to see what my next results look like. He said if either levels rise he would look to do scans or treatment depending on how high they went but if they stay the same he won’t need to do anything.
I had bloods done last week and have an appt with my endocrinologist on 22nd December so will have to just wait and see if they are ok or not then
