think TSH suppression is too high

Hi all

I was treated for thyroid cancer 4 years ago and am now all clear according to my oncology team. I am on 150mcg thyroxine and my TSH is 0.01 and I feel it is causing me problems. I have a lot of anxiety and insomnia and feel i have a lot of nervous energy. It is making life hard. I have been told I can go to yearly scans now and that is great. Can I ask to have my thyroxine reduced as well? I just feel tired of feeling nervy and hot and unable to properly sleep and having an upset stomach. Has anybody else had similar issues?

Many thanks

    Hi

A similar thing happened to me, My heart rate was racing, feeling very hot and not sleeping at night. I mentioned it at my appointment and my dose was reduced 4 days per week. It’s your body and unless you tell them how you are feeling they won’t know.

I would ask to get my bloods checked again and then for another appointment.

  • Heya Berlinbaby!

Been a while since I've seen you around, which in a way is a good thing, in a way a bad. lol.

TSH suppression to 0.1 is only for the first year and should then be re-evaluated to see what sort of risk category you're in. If you're classed as all clear and you're moving to yearly scans, then I'd def ask if the suppression can be relaxed a little. They can often allow it to relax and go to 2 at the highest if you're not at risk of recurrence.

So if you've got an appointment coming up, or someone you can call or email, then I'd say go for it. Just explain as you have here about what you're feeling, and ask if it's possible to relax the suppression. The worst they can say is no, so definitely worth asking the question!

Good luck, and whoo hoo on being clear!
