I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I had my thyroid completely removed in September last year. It has completely healed. I had to wait having RAI due to being pregnant. I recently had the baby and going for my RAI around July time.
In in the meantime I keep checking my neck because I am always worried the cancer will come back, due to the cancers cells starting to go into my blood vessels. I have recently found a lump in my neck near my scar. I’m not sure if I should get it checked from the doctors. I am worried wasting there time if it is nothing. I am also waiting results for a lump at the back of leg.
Someone please help!
Hey lulu,
The thing to remember about the neck is that there are lots of lymph nodes in there whose job it is to get rid of infections. So they will swell up from time to time when they are fighting off a bug. Also, repeated checking and poking of your neck can irritate and inflame parts of it.
Best thing to do is to stop checking and stop poking, leave everything in your neck alone for a couple of weeks. Then very gently, stroke your fingers over your neck, or move in small circles. If there's still a lump there and you've no signs of a cold or bug, then give your specialist nurse or consultants secretary a call and let them know. See what they suggest you do. So if it's a GP visit, a consultant visit, or do nothing at all and they'll look in July.
