Hi All,
It's been a little while since I popped in but now with something new coming up I could use a little advice/reassurance.
Yesterday I got a letter saying that we'd be finally doing my stimulated thyroglobulin profile (two years on from completion of my RAI, is it normal for it to be that long?). Today I spoke with the nurse and she said the schedule would be as follows;
Monday- Injection
Tuesday- Injection
Wednesday- Nothing
Thursday- Nothing
Friday- Bloods
I always try to look back through old posts before asking questions, and one of the things I came across in another thread was someone saying to another poster that a schedule like this wouldn't make sense because they would want to do the bloods quite close to when I get the injections to get the best results? I go to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and feel like i've had excellent care there, I just haven't yet had the opportunity to connect with my doctors because my next appointment isn't until May 14th.
I'm also wondering if anyone has had any negative side effects from getting the injections? Just trying to figure out whether I need to give my boss a heads up at all.
Any clarity would be very appreciated. It's been interesting to notice how something like this throws me back into a place of anxiety pretty quickly. I'm now also waiting on my second sialendoscopy after the first didn't work due to stenosis of my salivary glands post RAI which I guess is pretty rare to have been affected so strongly.
Thank you again in advance thyroid angels for always being so helpful!!
xx Jamie
Hey there Jamie,
It's odd how little things we think are fine will send us on a wobble isn't it!
It's not usual to wait 2 years, they usually do the follow up scan between 9 and 12 months after the RAI showing nothing untoward.
With the thyrogen injections, some people get mild flu like symptoms. But nothing you shouldn't be able to cope with, but if you fancy a week off work, then go for it. Lol
There was a study done, testing what the difference was between day 3 sampling and day 5 sampling, and they've decided that day 5 sampling is more accurate for what they are looking for and at. However, it still varies from hospital to hospital where some are doing samples on day 3, and some on day 5. But the actual website of the people making thyrogen say that sampling should be done on day 5 for the check up test.
Hope that helps!
