Hi all
Holiday time for me and we’re heading off soon to a nice cosy pod in Morayshire, so all is good.
Just a wee bit of advice before I go. I’ve booked an appointment when I come back to check pain in my rib area and lower breast. Now I’m not panicking about it, haven’t rushed to doctor or anything, I’ve actually given it about 7weeks to go away, taking paracetamol etc. Pain is worse when lying down, if I sneeze or breath in too deeply. Pain is there all the time in varying degrees. Reminds me off pleuritic pain. I haven’t had a cold or hurt it in anyway, that I am aware.
Should I expect the doctor to check this thoroughly with my thyroid cancer history? I know the chance of it being related is remote, but wouldn’t want to leave anything to chance.
Thanks in advance
Hey Oban,
That sounds a bit miserable, the pain - not the holiday! Lol
Are you still a lobectomy/hemithyroidectomy person, or have you joined the ranks of the TT club? When was the last time your TG was checked?
I'd probably make sure and point out your thyroid cancer past to the doctor you see, and if your TG was last checked more than 6 months ago, ask if they could order you a blood test to see what it's up to.
As you say, the chance of it being related are remote, but better safe than sorry I think would be my attitude.
I hope it's something easy and quick to fix for you!

I have no medical training, everything I post is an opinion or educated guess. It is not medical advice.
Hi Lass
Thanks for the reply. To be honest, the pain is more annoying than anything else, the time when I sneeze etc or breathe deeply being the worse. Takes my breath away, a bit of a pain lol .
I was going to leave getting it checked, but hubby thinks I’ve left it long enough.
I’m still a hemi, which means thyroglobulin can be all over the place because the other half is still producing it. If my memory serves me right, it’s been 26, then 38, then 25 a few weeks ago. I haven’t got them to hand at the mo.
Thanks again for the speedy reply
all the best

I have had the same pain in my lower left breast. But not sure if it is actually my sternum that aches. I have an appointment at the hospital tomorrow with the breast clinic. I can't feel a lump, but what you are describing sounds very similar to me. I actually feel a bit guilty about this appointment as like I said I can't feel a lump. But always have a dull ache that feels worse when I lay down especially on my left side. It feels like my right breast us crushing the left, which is silly as my boobs really are not that big. Lol
Hi Jodec17
That sounds very similar. Don’t feel guilty about the appointment, I’ve been to our local breast clinic a number of times to get breast cysts drained and they are always very welcoming, saying to come if you have anything that worries you. They’re the experts.
Good luck tomorrow. I thought my pain had eased slightly today, but now we’ve arrived at our pod, it’s very noticeable again. I’ll see what doc says next week.
All the Best

Hi Lass
I did go get checked out, went to a lady doctor as I’m a bit of a shy one, ridiculous I know after multiple breast exams, but because the rib pain was also in the breast, I thought she’d check them too. She did, and couldn’t feel or see anything wrong. She checked my ribs, which are still tender, has sent me for an X-ray, which I’m waiting on the results for. She also asked me to get bloods done, including my white blood count as I have mild neutropenia, which I only know about because I asked for a print out of my last blood tests!
No results from them yet, she did mention if the pain continues sending me for a different type of X-ray ? To be honest, I’m just getting used to the pain, some days it’s worse than others, and radiates through to my back, underneath my shoulder blade. But inside, if that makes sense.
I will say though, she was very understanding, not condescending, like so many and appreciated the effects of having a cancer diagnosis. Makes a change! and guess what ? She didn’t once say it was a good cancer !! :)
Will keep you posted and thanks for asking xx
