A tip for sleeping more comfortably after thyroid surgery

Reading all the great posts today from newly operated on people reminded me to drop back and pass on this tip which really helped me.

I hope it's OK to post a link but if you're finding it uncomfortable to lie flat whilst your scar is still fresh, I found V-shaped pillows really helped. I bought mine from Linens Limited but they are also stocked on Amazon. Linens limited also have spare covers available. You can find them in lots of stores so please don't think I'm 'pushing' this particular source - it's mostly a link so you can see what I mean if you've not seen this type of pillow before.

These are so good that I bought a pillow for my step-father and sister after they has surgery and then my husband and mum both asked for one each for reading in bed.

Yes, you may feel a bit 'elderly' but the extra support helps your neck relax.

best pillows ever, I still use mine and if you have had a neck dissection, I found the sofa a comfy place to sleep, if the arms of your sofa are soft.

Thank you for this tip! I'm almost a week into recovery after my second surgery and I often naturally twist to lie almost onto my face when I sleep. This of course leads to a rather painful post-op neck in the morning. I think this may well or even me from twisting like that so I might give it a go :)

Actually wish I'd taken one to hospital, found it pretty awkward to try and sleep with the pillows on the ward.

Thanks so much for this info I am going to get one for my boyfriend who is having his surgery next week! Can I just ask where you can get the extra covers from? Thank you. Jordan

  • As with so many things, they're easy to find if you know what to call them.

I'd suggest you google "v shaped pillow case" and you'll find online and shop options. Dunelm might be a good option. Amazon probably have them too.

Maybe get a couple. Good luck.

    Best wishes
