Hi all, I’m heading in to the Christie on Monday for my radioactive iodine treatment, I’ll be packing my bag this week ready with my iPad, laptop, jigsaw, couple of books even my putting mat and putter to keep me entertained . Obviously got my clothes and toiletries aswell, has anyone that had gone through this treatment got any further recommendations for what to take? Anything you maybe wish you had taken in yourself or anything you took in that really helped get through your time in hospital?
thank you
Make sure you take sugar free sweets to suck. And tea bags, coffee etc. You need to drink as much as possible to flush the radioactivity out, and suck sweets to help protect your salivary glands.
The food in hospital somehow seems worse when you feel well, so take a good supply of snacks.
I found it hard to sleep and wished I had taken my sleeping pills as getting them from the ward was slow.
All in all it’s not too terrible and far less awful than most cancer treatments I think.
Thanks you for that. Did you have a kettle in the room with you?
I did. But it was a different hospital. There was no microwave ‘due to regulations’
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
