I’m waiting on a diagnosis between papillary or follicular cancer. I had an indeterminate ultrasound and FNA biopsy so they went ahead and removed half my thyroid. 9 weeks later and they have told me it is cancer but are awaiting a second opinion to aid diagnosis. They removed 4cm of cancer but the lump itself was bigger.
I am scheduled in to remove the other half of my thyroid and radioactive iodine treatment about a month after.
How long does it take for everything to settle and get back to normal? How long after treatment would I be back at work roughly?
RIA your looking at 1-2 days in hospital maybe 3 if stronger dose, 3 days isolating from people at home.
Surgery, depending on your work I'd say 3 weeks at least if everything is going ok depending on healing.
Sometimes RIA is done months later. My TT was September and had RIA February 14th! I have follicular variant. So if it's the same for you then could start work again after TT and go off for the RIA.
Thanks! How long did you experience symptoms for the RAI after having it?
Also, does it take a long time to adjust to levothyroxine or can you just go back to ‘normal’ quite quickly?
I didn't have any tbh, I have symptoms from levo itself but none from RIA.
Erm I have my TT in September 23 and I'm still not settled on it unfortunately, but I'm still being supressed.
