I need a little advice three weeks post op.
A bit of background. I had my operation on the 19th of December and had two parathyroid glands removed due to spread. I have had low calcium levels with symptoms since. I was kept in hospital for a week as my levels wouldn't increase unless it was through an IV along with supplements. I was sent home with just supplements which have now finished.
I have had no contact regarding my follow up. I was told I would have an at 2-3 weeks after my operation. I am now three weeks. How long was it until the next appointment for you? The muscle spasms, pins and needles (which never disappeared) and tiredness have returned one day off the supplements.
How long was it until you found out about your radioactive iodine treatment?
Thank you
Hi,
I had a completion thyroidectomy on Nov 21st and my follow-up was on Dec 11th. I wasn't on supplements and I went home the same day as surgery. My bloods were taken a few weeks later (for a different appointment) and luckily they were OK (I lost 1 parathyroid gland during right sided surgery in October).
I would chase your appointment asap. Do you have the NHS app? I find appointments on there before I get some letters.
You should have your bloods repeated just to check your calcium levels. I had instructions to attend A&E if I had any issues.
I have an appointment with oncology on Jan 14th regarding the radioactive iodine and I'm hoping to have the treatment a few weeks after that.
HTH
Hi I had my follow up 6 weeks after surgery. I'm still on adcal calcium d3 tabs I had my surgery in july 2024. I have not had any symptoms of low calcium. I take 1 tab 3 times a day. I was told to call ENT if I had any problems or AE if emergency. Have you got a number for your consultant secretaries. I'm still having on going blood tests for calcium. Parathyroid still a little low. Having bloods done again on Wednesday.
