Hi
I had a partial thyroidectomy in January after a nodule was found to be Thy5, cancer. I had the partial as I was classed low risk. Surgery went well and when they tested the removed thyroid they found there was also a micro tumour there.
on Sunday I had my first follow up ultrasound and they have now seen a nodule in the remaining thyroid.
Has anyone else experienced this? I’m waiting to hear from my surgeon/specialist now. Just have so many questions!!
Hi,
I’m completely new to the forum after being diagnosed with follicular cancer on Monday after a diagnostic hemi-thyroidectomy in May. The left side was removed. My ultra sound and FNA both came back indeterminate, hence the decision to remove for further analysis.
My original operation was delayed because a 2cm nodule was found in the right side, but when that was biopsied it was benign, so they decided to leave the right side of my thyroid. Now given my diagnosis I have been told I will be getting the right side removed in 4-6 weeks and then RAI treatment.
Not exactly the same situation, but similar. Good luck
Hey, thanks for your reply. Interesting, I spoke to my nurse yesterday and they are going to give the specialist a nudge so hopefully I will have some answers in the next couple of weeks.
I hope the surgery and RAI goes well for you.
All the best x
Thank you. The diagnosis has absolutely terrified me, but I’m trying to be strong and stay positive. I’ve had a CT scan this evening (at my own request) for some reassurance it hasn’t spread elsewhere, so more waiting for results.
Hope you get some answers soon and wishing you lots of luck x
Hope you get the CT results soon. Do you have an assigned nurse? They are amazing. When I had my CT they literally rang me two days later just to tell me the results. Also I have rung them this time to see when I will get an appointment with my specialist. They are really worth their weight in gold.
I do have a specialist nurse and I had a good long chat with her yesterday which was really helpful. I have now have a date for the operation for the removal of the other half of my thyroid (11th July) and more of an idea what will happen afterwards in terms of treatment.
It’s a lot to take in, but I feel reassured after speaking with her. Like you, she said she will let me know about the scan results if and when they are available x
