Multi-nodular Goitre and Partial Thyroidectomy.

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you had a multi nodular goitre? I had a partial thyroidectomy about 2yrs ago, as one of the nodules was 3cm and constricting my airway. Unfortunately the surgeon refused to remove it all, even though I've been left with at least 5 nodules in the remaining gland, one of which had almost reached 1cm. I was discharged with no plans for regular follow up scans or bloods and it's been a battle to say the least. I've been really unwell the past 7/8mths (I'm on the gynae part of this site) and have had a least 2 biopsies for different things, all good but scary stuff! It feels very much like I was when my thyroid was playing up the last time.

  • Hi

I don't have any personal experience with multi nodular goitre but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

I used the group search function and found these previous posts which mention multi nodular goitre. Some are quite old but you could respond to the more recent ones if you wanted to.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnoses and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi, I’m sorry to hear about the experience you are having. To be honest it’s been an uphill battle last couple of years getting consultants to take me seriously and I’m glad I persevered.

i know usually they like to keep half in to keep producing the hormones so you’re not on levothyroxine. But your team must know that eventually they will have to take the other half out so it’s probably frustrating for you.

also it seems they should be atleast seeing you every 6months/yearly to keep an eye. I would say don’t give up, you know your body better than anyone. Go back to go to be referred again or atleast a blood test. If you do have a thyroid clinic at your hospital I would also email them and tell them of your concerns.

Write down your symptoms and how it’s affecting you so you don’t forget anything when speaking to gp or hospital.

  • Thanks! I will have a look! x

  • Thanks! That's great advice, I managed to get bloods done and they've all come back normal or satisfactory....I wonder was the thyroid one marked as satisfactory! Anyhow I have an appointment with a doctor tomorrow and will hopefully find out more! x
