So I still have not had a confirmed diagnosis. They keep saying enlarged thryroid and goiter and it has been over 7 weeks since my biopsy and I feel none the wiser, still in the dark.
I spoke to my consultant secretary and she said my results were in and that a letter should be sent out but that I was being referred to the multi disciplinary team. So do I take it that this is bad news. I have had this rather large lump in my neck now for 6 months. It affects my breathing, swallowing and my sleep at night.
I am worried sick they know it needs removed just wish it would be hurry up. My children are worried sick as you can see my neck a mile off so it is always on their mind too.
I made a private consultation with an ENT doc who I saw back in Oct from a different trust which my trust decided not to let me go with so I am with endocrine instead although they don't seem overly rushed. ENT really wanted the lump removed as soon as.
I am so thankful this group is here for support. I did cry a lot yesterday as it's been such a long process
Hey,
Mine took about 7 weeks for my thyroid biopsy as according to my thyroid nurse they were having to outsource pathology due to staffing issue in lab.
However my FNAC came back after 3 working days both of them as I had 2.
My thyroid results came back as a follicular variant Papillary thyroid carcinoma and the day they came back I rang and next day my thyroid nurse rang me back and wanted an appointment making with my consultant surgeon to tell me the results in person and I tried my hardest to make her tell me as I knew it was something.
Hopefully the fact they haven't done that is good news for you and hopefully they speed up informing you on what their plan is.
Good luck, all the best
Thank you for your reply. To be honest my biopsy was a nightmare from start to finish. It was an hour late so I was even more nervous. I had no warning that there would be no anaesthetic. The doctor mentioned thyroid cancer twice during the appointment. His words were as he was doing the ultrasound you know a lot of people can have thyroid cancer and not know it. I was silent. Then he continued saying a lot of people die in their seventies never knowing they had thyroid cancer. He then proceeded to shake my biopsy in my face saying there is too much fluid and blood in here for your biopsy to be read . You will have to return for another biopsy when there is a pathologist here to read it.
I am so hopeful that next week the private ent consultant will be able to give me some answers. Thankfully my family are paying for the consultation as otherwise I couldn't afford it.
Thanks again
Wow really? How unprofessional of him. I'm sure everyone who has this done is scared of the unknown and he mentioning it like it's casual conversation was abit uncalled for.
My first he did without anesthetic was ok tbh just I didn't dare move or swallow and the second he asked if I had anesthetic the first time so he didn't and again was ok.
Hopefully your appointment goes well, I wish you the best of luck x
Yeah to be honest I was in such shock that I never spoke a word. I thought they would have taken the biopsy on the right side of my neck where the largest mass is. But he went straight into the middle and pushed in against all my tubes for the biopsy I thought I was going to throw up.
Fingers crossed I get some form of answers
