Hi everyone,
I wanted feedback on situations where people have had TT after hemi thyroidectomy, have they gone into same scar or done an additional scar? I'm not fussed about appearance but I guess I wonder does it make it harder with healing again?

Hi MojMoj,
I had hemithyroidectomy then total thyroidectomy nearly a year later. Surgeon used the same incision and it now looks pretty much the same as it did after the first operation. I expected it to be more painful second time round but for me it wasn’t.
I know it is very different for everyone but second surgery was not as bad as I expected. Really hope that your next operation goes well
I had an initial left side lobectomy in Sept 23 with a completion thyroidectomy in early Nov 23. The surgeon reopened and slightly extended the existing scar. Its approx 5 inches long now. Only difference between the 1st and 2nd operation was the use of non dissolving suture 2nd time round. GP nurse removed that suture after a week.
I followed the post operative care instructions and the wound healed well both times. I am massaging some body oil into it daily to assist the healing process. The scar is pretty central on my neck but follows a natural crease so shouldn't be less visible as time passes.
