Hello,
I am due to have thyrogen injections on Saturday and Sunday and will be having a medium dose of RAI Monday and am predicted to stay in hospital 2-3 nights. Im just wondering when others had RAI how long did you have to isolate away from people when you came out of hospital and what dose did you have?
Thank you
Aby :-)
Hello
I’ve had the treatment twice. The first time last May when I had 3.67 GBq . Then at the end of January this year when I had 5.5GBq. Both times were fine, no problem with the injections or the treatment. I had the stuff on the Monday , home on Wednesday afternoon after a scan. I only had to sleep alone for Wednesday night and keep away from children and pregnant women until the Friday.
Just make sure you drink a lot of water and chew gum/ suck sweets and take nice food in with you so you don’t get too hungry due to the hospital food.
Good luck!
Hi Aby from my own experience of having a medium dose just before Xmas (3MBq), I was in 2 nights after taking the pill, but was told my levels had dropped enough to go home after one night. However due to distance and needing a whole body scan on the Friday (Pill was on Wednesday) I stayed the extra night. I was given a yellow card with details of how long I needed to distance myself from others. Discharged on 23/12 and had to avoid anyone in the house, or transport/places of entertainment until 30/12 and pregnant women and children until 8/1. I slept in a separate bedroom for a week and had to keep my distance from my hubby (6 feet) until 30/12.
Hi Gold Finch
Thank you for sharing your experiance
Im going to try and drink as much as possible. Unfortunately my RAI has been delayed intill 24th April due to the shortage of the radioactive iodine capsule

Hi sjk5101
It was fine thank you, had a bit of a dry mouth but other than that i didnt feel any different :-) (had a medium dose)
I was in hospital for 2 nights then had to sleep in a seperate bed from partner for 3 nights and stay 1-2 meters away. I also had to stay 1-2 meters away from pregnant people and children for a couple more days.
Good luck for Monday make a list of everything you want to watch on netflix :-)

Hi did you feel closed or isolated in when in the hospital?
Hi
You are isolated, obviously, but take plenty of stuff to occupy yourself. Booked etc. But bear in mind most of it gets thrown away as it becomes contaminated. They covered my phone and kindle for me so I got those back. I had a TV too.
It soon passes and it's worth it x
