  • Chances are that with Thy3f, they won't get a conclusive answer no matter how many times they test. Thy1 means they didn't get enough sample.

Timing is hard to say after all the Covid delays - you'll really need to check with your doctor. Similarly, ask them about delaying it. We don't have all the info but the doctor will.b A lot will depend on the size.

Personally, I never see any point in delaying these things. For sure, lumps don't get smaller or simpler for being 'watched'.

Don't google but feel free to read the thyroid cancer sections of the main Macmillan website. They are very good.

    Best wishes

  • Hiya,

My cancer was initially graded U3 and then Thy4. I had 2 ultrasounds at 2 different hospitals in Essex, one in March and the other in April. My biopsy was conducted during the 2nd ultrasound as the consultant wasn’t happy with the abnormalities he could see. Fast forward, I had a hemi-thyroidectomy June 30th which confirmed the cancer diagnosis, and had my completion total thyroidectomy done on 16th August. It absolutely depends on your area, your surgeon/consultant/and so many other external factors! I’m in Essex, and I know of other people who had far quicker, and far slower experiences too.
My advice, don’t give up and keep pressing for a forward plan!! Xx

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply deeply thankful . I forgot to mention although they  yet to sent me my results they wrote  a brief letter to say they believe 30 percent chance of malignancy if left  hence referral to surgeon . Previous results showed at Thy3 a A U3 - now is Thy3f ..

  • Hi

Like you I have recently been diagnosed I have a few health issues and following both CT and MRI they sent me for an ultrasound scan of my neck in April this year. Was told I would need a referral however it appears this was forgotten. I went for a FNA at the end of September and saw the consultant last Monday he informed me I have a u4 thy3f. They have suggested a hemithyroidectomy which I have agreed to. I had my pre op assessment on Wednesday but now the waiting is making me anxious. Like you I am a single parent to a 14 year old boy. He is aware that I am having surgery but doesn't know anything else. I am also in my last year at University and have never had to ask for any help before so am struggling with the concept. My question is does everyone feel so tired all the time my sleep pattern is not great and not helped by the worry but I feel exhausted all the time is this normal.

  • Hi apologies I didn’t get a notification of my messages and I don’t often check in is been a little overwhelming .
Bless you PrayHeart️from your last entry you may of had your procedure by now .. I hope is gone well - and you’re ok and  your son . Indeed our children worry about us and so do we and we try our best to protect them as single parents.

I was placed in a two month watch since my last consultation and had my second opinion this week together with additional scans which showed nodule growth . I decided as per the consultation wait and watch it growing isn’t really helping especially if it is c - depending on which can spread hence placed on waiting  list as urgent - looking at sometime January . .
I am a lot calmer tl what I was.. I feel prayer and helping others around me especially my kids helps me overthinking ..

I totally understand about having to ask for help but I realised as a self reliant person throughout my life too ,  that part of our journey is to open up and allow for the help we need because people around us want to help too.
regarding sleep issues due to combined health matters I have very little sleep but yes I believe it contributes ..

Allowance is key - I pray  everything is  gone ok for you and  you’d recovering ok with support and uni supporting you by understanding your circumstances .
love and many blessings PrayHeart️PrayI pray complete healing for you and blessed Christmas  holidays ahead PrayHeart️
