Hi all
I’m a new member, almost 65 and reasonably fit. Has left lobectomy in January which found 3 cm invasive encapsulated follicular variant papillary thyroid cancer, no lymph nodes taken. In May had right side removed has had a small nodule not previously tested. Told last Friday it contained 2 areas of papillary microcarcinoma. Not sure if lymph nodes were taken has communication not been the best but some tissue has gone to immunohistochemistry, awaiting results although no one has explained to me why the tissue has been sent to immunohistochemistry.
Just wondering if anyone been in a similar position to me with 2 different thyroid cancers and what treats ent they had

Hi Huddersfield Lass and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with a second thyroid cancer. Although I haven't had two thyroid cancer diagnoses I have had two cancer diagnoses so have an idea how you'll be feeling right now.
It must be very frustrating to not know why some tissue has gone to immunohistochemistry. Do you have a cancer nurse specialist (CNS), sometimes referred to as a keyworker, assigned to you? If so, you could give them a call to ask. If you don't have someone assigned to you then you could call your consultant's secretary and ask her to find out for you.
I'm sure that members of the group will soon pop on to share their experiences with you but, while you're waiting, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnoses and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

One day this dumb website will find a way to consistently send out alerts about new posts but until then, we'll be stuck with missing posts like yours. Sorry about that.
It's not unusual to have slightly different versions. In reality, it makes very little difference as the treatment is pretty much the same regardless of individual subvariants.
Best wishes
Barbara
