Hi there

i have already posted on here but not  on this forum. I have been diagnosed with Thyroid Papillary Micro Carcinoma and am going in for surgery this Monday! Total thyroidectomy and removal of some adjacent lymph glands. I thought this would be the result of my CT Scans but still scary. Also off work now and my fit note stated Thyroid Cancer and due surgery. Shocked again to see it written down as I haven’t mentioned the C word. Currently self isolating prior to op. Very nervous but take heart from other people’s success stories. Now want Monday over!! Xx

  • Thyroid cancer is one of the most fixable of cancers but that doesn't make it any less horrible when you are faced with seeing the C-word written down with your name above it.

If you're going to have thyroid cancer, a micro carcinoma is pretty darned good and papillary usually has the best outcome.

So, by all means, have a bit of a panic and nervous moments but try to keep your eyes on the statistics and be reassured that whilst it's horribly scary right now, it's highly likely to all turn out well in the end.

    Good luck tomorrow!

    Best wishes

  • Hi Barbara thanks so much for replying. Just reading your message reassures me and I’m all set for tomorrow. Overnight bag packed and I can do this! Will let you know how it goes xx

  • If you can - and if you have them - I recommend popping in a pair of slippers and nice dressing gown. That way, you've got more options about how warm or cool you want to be (and you won't have to walk down the corridor in your back fastening surgical gown flashing your bum for all to see.
