  • Can you tell us a bit more about which type of thyroid cancer you've been diagnosed with and what the doctors have told you so far.

10 years post thyroid removal, I can tell you that life without a thyroid is absolutely fine. Some people struggle to get used to daily medication, many will find it all very upsetting and others will bounce back with a sense of having dodged a bullet and feeling extremely lucky. Different people, different experiences.

Macmillan does make an excellent booklet about thyroid cancer that will tell you most of what you're likely to need to know.

If you have any specific questions, people here will provide you with plenty of info.

    Best wishes

    Hi

I have just been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer having had right side removed, getting left side removed on 23rd December, I feel very positive so please be strong as they say thyroid cancer is very treatable with great survival rates.  I'm coping ok with my diagnosis as I had breast cancer 23 years ago so I kinda know what's ahead of me.  The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the Radio iodine treatment and being in solitary for 3-4 days.  My consultant said that once full thyroid removed it takes a few months to get your blood at the correct level for the medication and that I will suffer from extreme fatigue which is much easier to cope with than the after affects of chemo like I had before.

    Take care
