I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in 2012

stage 3

had a TT and dissection to the left side of my neck

2 radio iodine treatments . blood results all good from there

my consultant retired and the new one suggested I should have been having CT scans

told me today that there is a small amount taken up on the left side of my neck .... after 7 years I’m gutted.

booking my radioiodine

I’m shocked I’m hear again

  • Do you mean you've had a scan with a small amount of radioactive iodine? I don't think you can see uptake on a CT scan - it might have been a gamma ray scan instead.

Have you been getting annual or twice yearly thyroglobulin blood tests? You say your blood tests were fine - I'm just checking they included thyroglobulin and antibodies.

After 7 years, I can totally get why your gutted.

  • I have to come clean that I'm really not clued up on CT scans and what they can show but I'm surprised they could spot that (but, like I said, clueless on this one).

Did your Tg blood tests increase over the years? Normally, that's the first warning sign of potential recurrence.

Write down all your questions and don't stop asking the doctors until you're happy that you understand all the answers. Good luck.

  • My usual advice is:

    Breathe in

    Breathe out

    Repeat.

That covers most things in life.
