Hello,
My partner had TC and finished BEP chemo in March 2019 - he is nearly 18 months all clear which we are thrilled about!
He is 32 and I’m 29 and we are looking to have a baby. Thankfully we have a 3 year old so consider ourselves blessed but are wondering what everyones experiences are with having children after BEP chemo?
I haven’t seen a lot of encouraging stuff online & the nurse specialist has advised it can take 2 years for the count to come back if at all.
I was hoping for some real stories / and idea of the road we have ahead. Thanks in advance
I am so glad it has brought some hope I am sending lots of love and luck your way
Hi Kelly,
This thread has been extremely helpful as I have been unable to find anything online at all (up until now) that relates to what my husband and I have been through.
he had testicular cancer, we banked sperm thankfully, then it spread to the lymph nodes in his back so he had BEP chemo.
he is now almost infertile and we have an extremely low chance of conceiving naturally (that was when he was checked just before 1 yr post chemo)
so we are going to proceed with IVF. I am so grateful everyday we decided to have a child when we where younger. But we would love her to have a sibling.
anyway, it’s just nice to finally find some people who have been through the same as us.
I am hopeful one day my hubbys sperm count could rise after reading this thread!
thanks again,
Hello, new here.
My fiance and I were just looking for some hope as well and real stories. My fiance had his first time of Testicular cancer about 3 years ago, he had one testicle removed, then about a year later some radiation. This last time hes had 4 rounds of BEP, from august 2022- december 2022. He had an RPLND surgery in february 2023. We just had a sperm test done that was zero. We were told can take 2-5 years to come back. He had just got a reverse vasectomy before we had found out he was sick again and had chemo done, so this was really rough on both of us. I feel so bad he went through the reversal surgery just to find out he had to do chemo. Just wondering other peoples success stories and how long it took for sperm to come back after chemo, etc. Thanks so much… He is 34, I am 28..
Hey Towercrane,
I had to create a new account as I forgot my log in. I just wanted to reach out because I know how uncertain it feels and how much finding just one person going through what you’ve been through can be so comforting.
So my husband has been clear now since his BEP chemo in 2021. He still has tests every 4 months, he actually gets results today for his latest blood test.
We were told we’d need IVF and had less than 1% chance of conceiving. As we were waiting to begin our first cycle I found out I was pregnant. I sadly miscarried at 7 weeks. We were devastated and I didn’t feel ready to start IVF emotionally so we just carried on with life and thought we’d wait until this year to start again. We weren’t entitled to funding either so had to save too.
then just before Christmas I fell pregnant again, we weren’t trying. I’m now 38 weeks and baby is due at the beginning of august!
everyone’s experiences are different but we were told there was virtually no chance in April last year. I think the best you can do is live healthily, look into vitamins that help like zinc, and just try not to put any pressure on it or stress about conceiving. Believe me, I know that’s hard because I wanted another child more than anything but I think a positive mindset is very important. I am 27 now and husband is 30. I wish you all the best!
Hii SashaChloe23!!!!
Oh my goodness thank you so much for reaching out and commenting back to me. You definitely have given me hope and that makes me feel so much better and less alone! I showed your response to my fiance and he is so happy too. I really appreciate you taking the time to write back to me. I will do what your saying as well and just relax and try not to stress. I’ve heard there is something to that on just relaxing. Crazy what stress can do to the body! Congratulations on your baby due soon as well!!!!! Thats soooo exciting!!! I’m wishing you all the best :)
