Hi, guys.
New to the forum, and have posted an intro in the 'say hello' section.
Basically, I am waiting for an ultrasound. I was just wondering what usually happens regarding the results? Do they give you any indication of their observations then and there?
Also, I was just wondering on what happens if I have to have surgery - I've been reading a few horror stories where some guys have had a testicle removed only to find out there's nothing wrong with it. I would suspect such occurances are rare, but that really puts scares me - I would imagine they would have to be pretty damn certain that it is cancer beforehand, but I suppose I'm just looking for re-assurance. I know these guys are professionals and know far more than I do. I just don't want to end up making a stupid decision further down the line because I'm too scared. Does that make sense?
Hi.
Your ultrasound technician won't really be able to tell you much. Although mine did tell me mine was abnormal. A consultant will review it quite quickly and make a call on whether you need a CT scan to investigate further. Mine was reviewed the same day but that was because it was early in lockdown 1 and the hospital was pretty much empty apart from me. I actually had the CT scan that same day too. But that process will normally take a week or two to progress through.
They will make a final call based on the CT scan. No biopsies for this because that would risk spreading the cancer. If they do decide it is cancer they'll schedule your operation quite quickly. Testicular cancer is serious, but it is also very curable, so you will be high priority.
The operation isn't nearly as bad as you'd imagine. It sounds silly, but try not to worry. You'll receive great care.
Best wishes
G
Thanks for info, Teahupo - much appreciated.
My story, in brief, so far: found a small pea-sized lump behind my left tescicle - seems to be seperate from the testicle itself; doctors appointment next day - doctor advised it doesn't seem too concerning, but arranged an ultrasound.
I'm hoping it's a harmless cyst (given the location and characteristics), but I'm preparing myself (as best I can) for the possibility of a cancer diagnosis.
The worry just seems to be consuming me at the moment - I can't seem to get myself to do anything else all day.
Thanks, Teahupo. Fingers crossed.
My GP said I should hear something about my ultrasound/specialist appointment within two weeks. Does this sound about right in your experience? Sorry to ask so many questions - I don't really have anyone around here I can discuss things with, so I'm somewhat on my own with this.
