Enlarged Lymph Node and lymphocele

Hi There,

To give you a bit of background, I was diagnosed with TC in Oct 2018 and had my left ball removed. It was stage 1B seminoma. I didn’t have any adjuvant chemo as I have a nerve condition and the chemo could damage nerve cells permanently. The tumour markers in my blood were all normal so we opted for surveillance.

My scan last month showed a lymph node has grown in size from 6mm to 7.8mm, tumour markers remained normal. They said they want to do a follow up scan in 3 months as the increase in the lymph nose isn’t massive and it could be for a number of reasons

Just over a week ago, I noticed some swelling around my penis and general groin area, saw my doctor on Friday and she said it looks like a lymphocele (blockage in my lymphatic system) and is referring it to my oncologist and urologist.

I’m obviously worried that it could be cancer that’s causing it (knowing my treatment options may be limited), i‘m hoping I’ll be able to see/speak to someone soon.

Has anyone else had a lymphocele?

Any ideas of what questions I should ask? It’s difficult to think of questions when you’re put on the spot and with the current situation.

Thanks

  • Hi

I don't have any experience with lympocele but I noticed that your post hadn't had any responses yet. I put 'lymphocele' into the search bar in the group but didn't find any previous posts which mention this. Of course this doesn't mean that no one else in the group has had this but just that they haven't posted about it.

Clicking here will take you to Macmillan's list of suggested questions to ask your team when you see them. It's a generic list and obviously not everything will apply but you could use it as a starting point. It's a good idea to write down anything you want to ask because, if you're like me, you forget what you want to know as soon as you're in front of the consultant!

You could also post this question in the ask a nurse section of the online community and one of the specialist nurses might be able to suggest specific questions you could ask.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Do come back and let us all know how you get onx

    Hi Telford82

Not sure if it helps. But I too had an enlarged lymph node in my lower right hand side abdomen. 6months after my orchidectomy, one of the surveillance CT scans picked it up, if I remember correctly I think it had only increased in size by 1mm!

But the doctors said the best course of action was to have an operation called RPLND, which is not a small procedure! Which I had, and touch wood, everythings been all clear since.

    Thanks Dale,

I’ve got a date for the CT scan (11th Jan), I guess I’ll know more when I’ve had it.

1mm? I was told they’re not concerned about anything up to 1cm, I’m assuming that’s overall size.

I think the hardest bit about this “journey” has been the waiting and not knowing.

I had the CT scan today, I was terrified they may cancel it because of the coronavirus madness.

    Now the waiting game.....

Got the results back, bloods were clear (as expected) and the CT is “stable”.

Not entirely sure what stable means, I’m assuming the lymph node hasn’t changed as opposed to shrinking back to it’s original size, but they’re not worried about it so I’ll stop :)
