Hi there, May I ask where was your incision site was for your Orchiectomy procedure, was it low down on the scrotum or higher up in the groin.

Do you know if your ilioinguinal nerve was preserved, or was it cut along with everything else?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

    Hi Chip5,

My incision site was on the groin running horizontal on my body. It’s similar to where you would have a hernia operation. Unfortunately I do not know if ilioinguinal nerve was cut or not. I do know that my left thigh was completely numb for 24 hours because of a nerve irritation or something.

    I hope that helps.

  • Hi Editman, thank you for your reply.

I guess the groin gets bruised and swells up a bit?

It does a bit yes. I had my Orchidectomy on the 6th of May this year. For a month or so afterwards the incision was raised. I remember reading one person describe it as like having an AA battery inserted just beneath it. Mine is now normal with no swelling. I have had the odd bit of tingling and pain in and around it. But my father in law who had a hernia operation in the same place decades ago says he still gets the odd tingle. Nerves I guess.

  • It was me that described the AA battery feeling. It gradually went and now I feel nothing a few months later. Sometimes get an ingrowing hair in the scar, but it is only mildly annoying. My incision was not horizontal though. Mine was along the diagonal crease between my thigh and my abdomen and about 3 inches long.

I have the accurately described "AA battery" feeling under my incision as well, and glad to know it will go down.

It is also a ~3 in diagonal near my leg/groin crease, and my thigh was also numb for 8 hours after the procedure due to the local anesthetic accidentally getting into the femoral nerve in my thigh. Luckily that doesn't cause any issues other than not being able to walk for a bit.

I believe my ilioinguinal nerve is still there.
