After my laproscopy which found nothing, they want to have a surgery to remove my whole stomach. However at the moment my meal intake humongous I am eating 4 plus meals a day. And non of the cancer signs and symptoms are showing is this normal
Some positive news there is no spread. I was eating as normal and had larger potions before diagnosis, I come from Italian family, we don’t do small! I just went off of cofffee. My symptoms were heartburn & fatigue.
i believe depending on where the cancer is in the stomach depends on a total or partial gastrectomy.
Mine was higher up and 2cms so total gastrectomy was my only option.
Wow that is promising news yes true about Italians my friend cicero says this. Yes mine is 3cm they say total gastrectomy. Not comfortable with that
it is all a lot to process. What are you wanting to do?
I had cancer as a child and had my kidney removed - wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t. I went on to have 2 children. When stomach cancer was diagnosed and seeing how aggressive it was I was scared of not having a stomach but more scared of leaving my children, husband & family. My odds were not high but I have been told last week I am in remission.
Have you meet the specialist team, keep talking with them.
take care
The team i have met have nit given me anything concrete nit told me what stage it is at but only said total gastrectomy is the only option, nothing much about chemotherapy has been said either
The symptoms mainly at the time was regurgitating my food after eating and some pain just below my diaphragm. No stomach issues. Just throwing up food mainly. Amd right now no symptoms besides a high appetite
That sounds like tumour in the upper part of the stomach.
sometimes if the tumour is in the lower part the surgeon may suggest a partial gastrectomy. However the modern thinking is the benefits to the life quality are minimal compared with full one, but the risk of cancer recurrence would be higher, so they tend to go for total.
But it’s irrelevant in case the tumour is in the upper part of the stomach, they have to remove all of it.
I‘m sure they’ll discuss chemo with you.
I had a partial gastrectomy seven years ago. I was not informed that a partial gastrectomy increased the risk of recurrence. The cancer was found very early in my case and was in my lower stomach. I had chemo prior to surgery which completely eradicated the cancer and so I decided not to have chemo after surgery.
The treatment decision is informed by many factors and the results of tests which are discussed at the MDT. This team are very skilled at weighing up the risks and deciding on the best treatment.
