Im 40 years of age I've been back and forth to my GP with H.pylori treated 3 times. However I kept regurgitating my food each time I ate for a while. I decided to exaggerate my symptoms inorder to have a gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Even after this they kept cancelling my appointments saying I dont fit the criteria.
Eventually I had both done. Including a ct scan for throat, pelvis and abdomen this picked nothing up.
Gastroscopy picked something i had 12 biopsies taken.
It was confirmed I have gastric adenocarcinoma. Next step is a laproscopy on Friday to see if this outside my stomach.
My journey has begun, I hope to find some strength and support. I have been physically active my whole life played rugby I'm fit as a fiddle even now I function 100%.
Welcome to our group, though not one you ever wanted to join! There are many people here who have gone through treatment for stomach cancer and will share their experiences. I had chemo and a partial gastrectomy seven years ago and now live a normal life, eating and drinking much as before.
This will be the most difficult time, as the medical team do all the tests to determine the treatment pathway for you.
Good luck!
Jac
Hi and welcome. I had my total gastrectomy in June 2025 for 2 different cancers, one being what you are diagnosed with. It has been hard but am now eating bit better and portion size slightly increasing. Its the weight lost I am finding hard. I lost 2 stones. I am just getting used to eating several times a day as believe it or not I still feel hungry. You will get through this. There are many positive stories which gives me hope. You will experience good/bad days but eventually the good become more. I am getting Counselling which is helping me and will enrol in swimming / gym next year when I feel more up for it. I still feel tired so usually nap in the afternoon as I am still recovering. Keep positive as believe you me I never thought I would feel "normal" again!! Take care and always here for you. Shirley

Thanks, feels like a dream still i have key hole surgery next week to determine if it's outside the stomach thats what I am dreading.
Hi, sorry to see you here, but there’s a lot of support on this forum. I had a total gastrectomy in 2022 it was hard going through chemo and as others have said the weight loss after the operation… but I bounced bag and I’m living as normal as can be…
Your medical team will be there to support you and lead you the right way with treatment… Also if there are any support groups near you to drop in to, I would recommend contacting them as it will help immensely.
If you need any help with questions, ask away on here.
Take care
Michele
Hi.
I was diagnosed With stomach cancer in November 2024 age 43. Had 4 rounds of FLOT chemotherapy then surgery for total gastrectomy. My cancer had gone through my stomach wall. After another 4 rounds of FLOT I have just been told I am now in remission. It is a long journey but I feel like it time has gone so quick.
being fit hopefully will help you with chemotherapy and surgery.
a friend I made during surgery recovered a lot quicker than me as he was a lot fitter.
Rugby - I missed not being able to go to see my team during treatment but was able to watch it on TV. Wore my shirt to each chemo session
take care
michelle
