new here, found out on thursday, think i’m in shock still, had endoscopy to see if i had a hernia and came away with cancer!, get ct scan on monday to get more information

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I didn't have the same type of cancer as you but I do understand how you'll feel after your diagnosis. Hopefully once you've got the results of any tests, etc in and you know what your treatment plan is you'll feel more in control.

All the best with your scan today and do come back and let us know how it goes.

Hi, feel free to ask anything.   A little like you I had an endoscopy back in May 2019 for a stomach ulcer and a few days later was being told it was cancer.  I think the first words out of my mouth were “well that’s put a right sh*tter on my week!”   Anything I can answer I will, feel free to drop me a message.   The other people on here have been awesome too, plenty of people who can/will help.

hi thanks for message, ct scan was very quick! now i just have to wait again for results! also need to keep myself off the internet lol

  • Hi

I think waiting is a really horrible part of the whole process Disappointed Unfortunately there's nothing we can do to speed the process up so the best thing to do, I found, was to find enjoyable things to do whilst waiting. Eating Easter eggs is a good and enjoyable distraction!

Hi, mine was found early-ish....it took a few months of struggling with chronic heartburn and indigestion before I was referred and had an endoscopy.   It was classed as Stage 2 after a CT, MRI and staging laparoscopy.  I had a course of FLOT chemo, followed by a total gastrectomy.  The histology results of that showed it had actually spread thru my stomach wall and into a few lymph nodes, which meant it was reclassified as Stage 3.  I then had another course of FLOT (against the oncologists advice as they didn’t believe the pre-op chemo had had much effect).  Overall I was diagnosed mid-May 2019, started chemo mid-June, op at the start of October, post-op chemo start of December and treatment ended in mid-Jan of last year.  It was all done very very quickly, although this was helped by my age (I was 42 when diagnosed) and health/fitness level

I am currently cancer free, although I have just had another op (still recovering from it) to try and fix an obstruction in my bowel caused by scarring from the gastrectomy....but that’s a different story.

It’s definitely a good idea to stay away from Doctor Google, although looking things up on Macmillan or Cancer Research UK sites etc isn’t a bad idea Slight smile

yeah i had the same heartburn story and pushed for the endoscopy, gives me hope that you have been through all that and can say your cancer free!  guess i’ll just need to wait for results and see where i go from there. don’t think i’ve any clue how it’s going to impact my life, just kinda carrying on as normal just now

  • Hi,

I had the same end if March this year, and everything happened so quickly. I’m currently undergoing EOX chemo, second session today, and hopefully will have the op in May. I am stage 4 but knowledge is everything. They gave me 12-18 months to live and no operation so always get a second opinion. I am only 47 and fit so not giving up without a fight. Stay positive always and believe you will get better. Wishing you loads of love for your results xx

thank you, what should i expect from chemo? best of luck with your recovery! x

  • Everyone is different, they are now changing mine to FLOT as I’m having the op. My hair is falling out but it’s only hair and it will grow back. I’ve still managed to do my 10,000 steps every day to help boost my mood. Sometimes I’m very tired and I did get a blood clot in my arm but that was sorted very quickly. Every person is different and best to take it as it comes, relax stay smiling and positive and you’ll get through it. Xx
