Hi , I have a pyloric stent fitted meaning there are some foods I can't eat the main one being bread , , I am trying to find a convenient substitute to replace bread. I really miss being able to make a quick easy snack like a peanut butter or cheese sandwich anytime i am feeling hungry , without having to make toast. Is there anyone else who has encountered this and have found a alternative to normal white bread , this will help my no end to maintain my weight by eating more frequently.
Hi Ukmartian
I’m latchbrook, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I'm sorry to hear about your difficulty eating bread.
Whilst I don't have this problem, so can't offer any suggestions, I'm sure there must be lots of people in this group who have experienced something similar. Do you have access to a dietician at your hospital as they should be able to give you advice?
I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi thanks to your kind reply...I have hopefully aided some details to my profile again , it a bit sketchy compared to yours lol but the last 8 months have been a bit off a blur. I have spent a total of 3 weeks in hospital been proded and poked and tubes in every orifice and to cap it off my dad died 2 weeks ago , However it's not that I can't eat bread it's the fact I is on the avoidance list as it could swell in the stomach and block my stent(s) along with fibrous foods touth meat ect I can eat most things but smaller portions more frequently .
If you need to avoid fibre, then good crackers are also out, I suppose. Do you find microwaving things easy, or the snack needs to be literally grab and eat? If microwave isn’t a hassle, I’d make a big pot of mashed potato, with butter and cream and in general 100 calories per tbsp. Then you can grab a small portion and heat it up as you want it? With cheese on top. :)
