Hi all, so comforting to have somewhere to post this. My dad is 71, diagnosed with stomach cancer, not sure what stage but advised he’s a candidate for a total stomach removal. He’s had his first round of chemo to shrink the growth and due to start his 2nd on Wednesday. I’m just so worried he won’t get there as he’s been into hospital three time’s now in that time (unable to wee, infection and last night blue lighted as he collapsed). Is this normal/put it down to the chemo? I’m worried for my step mum too, trying to cope alone. Lastly, does this mean his next round will be delayed? Sending best wishes to all on here and thanks in anticipation.

My dad has a feeding tube so thinking latest collapse could be dehydration?

Thank you

  • Oh dear what a worry for you.  It’s hard to know how chemo will affect you and the first cycle is the hardest.  I had stomach cancer and three cycles of ECX.  I was fit and healthy but I was completely floored by the first cycle.  They adjusted the dose and it got easier.

The oncology team will be very experienced and will be able to decide on how to treat your dad.  It’s a very frightening time for all of you. Do use this Forum to get support.

    Take care

    Hi

just read your post, my dad just had his first chemo last week and his mood has been really low, had diarrhoea last 2 days! I’m hoping he will start to improve! And hoping first treatment is the worse the thought of going back must be scary for him however hoping will be better prepared on what to expect! One done four to go!
my dad also has feeding tube.
    hope your dad doing ok?
